Simple habits that reduce the risk of online fraud and help protect your personal data. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
- Use strong, unique passwords for each account — and a password manager if you can.
- Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is available.
- Never share OTPs, passwords, PINs, or card details — no genuine bank or official will ask for them.
- Be careful with links and attachments — verify the sender before clicking, and do not act on urgent-sounding messages in haste.
- Check for a secure connection (the address should begin with https) before entering any information on a website.
- Keep your devices, apps, and browser updated.
- Review your bank and card statements regularly for transactions you do not recognise.
- Limit the personal information you share publicly on social media.
- If you suspect fraud, act quickly — call the cyber crime helpline 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in.
