Official Indian resources and helplines relating to cyber crime, online financial fraud, and data protection. These are provided for general information. The external websites are operated by their respective authorities.
Reporting cyber crime and online fraud
- Cyber crime helpline — 1930. The national helpline for immediate reporting of online financial fraud, operated by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, available 24x7. Reporting a financial fraud quickly improves the chance of stopping the movement of the money. Call 1930.
- National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. For reporting cyber crimes online, including financial fraud, with a special focus on crimes against women and children. cybercrime.gov.in
Banking and payment fraud
- Notify your bank first. For an unauthorised electronic banking transaction, inform your bank as soon as possible. Under the Reserve Bank of India’s customer-protection framework (2017), a customer’s liability can be zero in certain third-party-breach cases where the transaction is reported to the bank within three working days.
- RBI Complaint Management System. If a complaint against a bank or regulated entity is not resolved, it can be escalated under the Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme after first raising it with the bank. Helpline: 14448. cms.rbi.org.in
Data protection
- Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The Act and related rules are published by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. meity.gov.in
- Data Protection Board of India. The authority established under the DPDP Act, 2023 to address non-compliance with the Act.
For organisations — cyber incident reporting
- CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team). The national agency for cyber security incidents, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Certain entities are required to report specified cyber incidents to CERT-In within six hours. Reports may be sent to incident@cert-in.org.in. cert-in.org.in
